We are excited to share that our onsite crew have reached another major construction milestone at HOUSS: the pouring of the roof slab – which marks the completion of the building’s structural stage of construction.

For the past two weeks our team carefully prepared the building for the pour. This step of construction required building a temporary framework and reinforcing it with steel. Although the concrete pour took only one day of work, it involved a number of large concrete trucks and a pump truck to get the concrete up to the roof.

After being placed, the concrete was finished both by hand and with a power trowel – which looks like a large fan blade and provides a uniform finish to the concrete.

This roofing process is a crucial step – once the roof is finished, the structural stage of the building is complete and the supportive shores can be removed. This also means that the crane can be removed and the exterior and interior finishes can begin.

The next steps at HOUSS will include waterproofing and completing the building envelope, which includes installing the glazing, metal cladding and roofing materials.

Stay tuned for the final construction phase!
